26 December 2011 marks the day when NYPMSN successfully held its first ever Inter-Poly Amazing Race - SyukuRun 2011. The focus of this Amazing Race is to remind us that we should be grateful for who we are and what we have today. Alhamdulillah, many of our brothers and sisters from different polytechnics came down to join us and gave their fullest support for this event.

"I found the race enjoyable because I got to mingle around with brothers and sisters from
other polytechnics, which was something novel. It was a great way to bond and
form ukhwah together in such an event as we all made time despite being
students who are busy with schoolwork and projects. InsyaAllah we will work
together for future mass events. What I learnt from SyukuRun 2011 is that no
man is an island and life has little meaning if we have no ‘Saudara and
Saudari’ to guide us along a path towards Allah. We need to be surrounded by
like-minded people to prevent us from going astray, and insyaAllah that is the
key that leads to success in both dunia and akhirat."

"Alhamdulillah, it was an event worth remembering. Kudos to NYPMS in roping all the Muslim Society together in one event. SyukuRun covered all the P.I.E.S for the event such that there were ‘Physical’ activity (the running around), ‘Intellectual’(puzzles,quizzes), ‘Emotional’ (the walking on stones) and lastly ‘Spiritual’(Islamic questions and Sunnah practices). On top of that, the event has a specific objective which allowed the participants to experience how people with dyslexia face their daily challenges. The Islamic quizzes really make us review back what we have been taught as sometimes we just take for granted things that we might have already known or not know at all! Lastly, looking forward to meet the fellow' brothers and sisters from other Muslim Society again, Insya’Allah =)

"Alhamdulillah. I was really excited for what is in store for us when NYPMSN broke the news of the SyukuRun. It itself was a great platform for interaction between different tertiary MS members, strengthening the ukhwah and spending some fun time together. This event which was able to attract large number of NPMSS members showed that we have a common desire to establish this ukhwatufillah among our brothers and sisters of different institutions. Even some of our alumnis wanted to join in! This event also has opened our eyes to enable us to be thankful with the gifts that Allah have bestowed upon us. From the bottom of my heart I would like to thank the organizing committee for putting in alot of effort in coming up with this event.

The event was laid out quite neatly. I came bit late but nonetheless, the members of NPMSS made their own ta`aruf session before the event starts. The stations were spread out widely around the area. Even though some thought that it was too big of an area, I feel that we made full use of the time walking by interacting with each other. The structure of the activities were very interesting. From puzzles, to sensory trails, I really enjoyed the activities throughout the event. One of the most memorable part was the part when we had to climb up flights of stairs to get questions that needed to be answered. The wide range of questions regarding the Quran really showed me how much we dont know or have forgotten about our Quran. We need to cherish our knowledge, the gifts that Allah have bestowed upon us, the companionship that we have by giving back to the society.,

Alhamdulillah wa Syukrulillah. InsyaAllah this event will spark more of its kind from other tertiary institutions. May these bonds of faith be strengthened, may our hope for a greater, stronger and better Ummah comes alive through events that unites us and may we walk in this path of mardhatillah as one Ummah here and insyaAllah in the hereafter."

Assalamualaikum, this post is dedicated to all NYP brothers and sisters who are in School of Health Sciences. We have compiled a list of available musollah for NYP students who may be attached to a hospital for their clinical attachment. If you are having clinical attachments in any of the hospitals below, do look out for the available musollahs! If you know of any places to solat while having attachment, feel free to add on to the list by emailing us at nypmsn@gmail.com.

There is a surau which is located behind a newly-renovated Housemen Canteen. To get there, head to Blk 7.

Jumaah prayers are held in this surau. If you have any problem please seek assistance from any MOH muslim staff.

Tan Tock Seng Hospital

i) There is a small area (where files are kept) in the diagnostic radiology department to perform prayer. (For radiographer students only).

ii) There is mosque, Masjid Abdul Hamid Kampung Pasiran which is situated, about 1.3km away from TTSH.

i) Please ask staff at counter for assistance. Prayer mats & prayer gears are provided,

National University Hospital

i) Situated at a room on level 6 (Ward 60-64).

ii) Situated at the Emergency Ward near the Emergency Entrance. Turn to the RIGHT and go up the staircase. For Muslimin, proceed to the 3rd floor. For Muslimah, proceed to the 4th floor.

i) Prayer mat and telekongs are provided in the cupboard. Qiblat is indicated on the ceiling. Ablution: use the washroom or basin in the room.

ii) Ask any Muslim lady working at the front counter for assistance. Prayer mats are provided but not telekong. Ablution: use the washroom on the ground floor of the Emergency Ward.

Changi General Hospital

At basement 1, diagnostic radiology department. (For radiographer students only).

Please ask any Muslim staffs for assistance.

Khoo Teck Phuat Hospital

Praying area is located at level 3 – level 10 in Tower B. Area is at the waiting area.

No prayer gears or mats are available. Qiblah direction is available on ceiling.

KK Women & Child Hospital

Women's Wing - Staircase landing (behind Exit door) just left of the 24-hour Clinic at Basement 1

Slippers, mats and telekong available. Take ablution at Basement 1 male/female toilets nearby.

Raffles Hospital

Sultan Mosque is situated nearby, a walking distance from Raffles Hospital.

3 Muscat Street

Mount Alvernia Hospital

Opposite the registration counter there's a small room called Quiet Room, specially reserved for Muslims to do their prayers.

You can ask any staff doctors or nurses. They will be able to help.

Gleneagles Hospital

Musollah is situated at level 1. Go through the main entrance and turn RIGHT along the corridor. Go up the stairs& head to the canteen.

Adjacent to the 2^nd door of the canteen is a door that leads to a flight of stairs. Take the stairs to level and you will see the musollah.

Ask any Muslim staff for directions.

*The door that leads to the 1^st level of stairs is permanently closed.

Gems of Jannah (Sisters' Event)

Continuing with the success of Camp Amir, an event exclusively organized by the brothers for the brothers, NYPMSN has also successfully conducted an event specially for the sisters, called 'Gems of Jannah'.

Like the name suggested, the objective of this event is to tighten the bonds between the sisters in NYPMSN while reflecting on the things that Allah has specially rewarded for us Muslimahs :)
It was a very fruitful event as there were many activities that made the sisters reflect and also a sharing session where everyone can just speak and share comfortably with one another.

NYPMSN has received testimonials from our sisters who went to the event and would like to share it with everyone.

"From the start of the day, I already knew that I will get to enjoy myself on that Saturday, together with the company of NYPMSN sisters, at the S’pore botanical gardens. We were indeed very lucky for being able to get a rather big sheltered spot for us to carry out our activities for the day. Initially, a few others including myself thought that the timing of the event seems to be a little too long. However, it wasn’t so.

I find the activity in understanding the respectable women in Islam rather interesting. Though it was merely a short presentation / skit regarding the women in Islam, the messages behind their actions, characters were made very clear. After reading the handout about the women in Islam (which was Fathimah Umar Al-Khattab for mine), I felt that this activity served as a recap for me for what I’ve learnt in the subject Sirah before.

As for the heart to heart sharing, the things we talked about were rather personal. However, for many of us actually went to speak up about whatever we had in mind about anything, it really showed that all of us were comfortable to talk openly to all the sisters there.

I also enjoyed the part where we made sandwiches for one another. One had to communicate with the other sister, so as to know how much tomato, egg, small pieces of chicken, mayonnaise, and chilli sauce to add to the sandwich. We have to then know how to appreciate the sandwich we got, which was specially made by one of our sisters.

To sum it all, some of the things I learnt for the day was that we should know about the reasons on why we have to wear the hijab, the amount of pahala we are able to get, for eg when doing housework, to try to behave ourselves at wherever we are, and to stand by our own principles and not let others influence us easily.

In short, I really enjoyed myself and learnt a few new things during the event. I’m glad to get to meet-up with the nypmsn sisters who were there and also to snap pictures with them and the balloon sculptures. (: " - Syazwani

"Today’s ‘Gems of Jannah’ event was a very fruitful and beneficial one for me and insyaAllah to others who attended it. It was more than just a bonding session for us. There were lots of activities such as ice breakers where we got to know one another better and group presentations. We also learnt how to take ablution with little water, had Heart-To-Heart-Talk (HTHT), and made sandwiches and cards for our beloved sisters.

This event also taught me how to be a good muslimah and apply it in my daily life. We should not give up easily and forget Him when we face a problem. Instead, we should always look back at what Fatimah and Mashitah did in the past and always pray to Him. With that, we will have the courage to face our problems and do whatever it takes for Him.

Throughout this event, there was a mix of happiness, love, laughter and sadness going on. In retrospect, we learnt that there is always this phrase that says, “There is always a hikmah behind everything”. With these, I find peace and calmness in my heart. With all the sisters around me, I feel very appreciated and grateful to meet them and be part of this event. Indeed, it was a very remarkable, exciting, wonderful and girlish event for all of us. I would also like to take the opportunity here, to thank the sisters for making the event a successful one. Without them, we would not have learnt valuable lessons from them. <3 "

Camp Amir - Brothers' Event

On the 22nd October 2011, NYPMSN committee together with its alumni, organized an exclusive brothers' ONLY event at Masjid Muhajirin. Exciting and meaningful activities were planned especially for our participants.

One of the activities was to build the highest tower using only the papers avoided. The brothers was really creative and innovative in their paper building.

Let's see what the brothers have to say about this Camp :)

"Bismillah.

The camp began with a ta'aaruf session, where we had some interesting games including personality shape game that lets you know what type of a person or ‘shape’ you are when working with others. Another highlight was lunch, which was over-satisfying. Then after that was briefing for our trip to DAIRY farm. The alumnis aka organizers told us that we had to buy our own dinner and breakfast for the next day with only $2 per person. Good thing I ate numerous servings of lunch before the briefing! After that was a presentation from bro Remy. An important point that was brought up was that you don't have to ask or fight for a leadership role just to gain that authorization, it happens naturally when people appoint you to lead something.

Not long after, we set off to some shops and bought some snacks after combining our money with the allocated budget. I realised it's easier to survive when you pool resources and work together instead of handling things on your own. After dropping off from brothers Remy's, Syaheer’s, and Azmi’s shiny red cars, we started our trail into dairy farm with bro Hilwan and bro Azhar. Yes you saw it right," DAIRY". So our first stop, we had a sharing session. We talked about how Wudhu' and Solaah can be conducted at pressing situations such as during school hours, when solaah time clashes with lessons or NS and also the working life. Alhamdulillah, the sharing was useful and beneficial, and is easily applicable to my daily life. The session emphasised that there's always time to do your solaah.

Then we prayed asr together, and after that we played some leadership and team-building games, which were really FUN. One of the learning points from here was the importance of communication among committees. When passing information, it has to be from the right person in a clear manner. We did our maghrib prayers together at American Pie, a cave that made us prostrate 45 degrees. It was yet another new experience. It amazed me when maghrib came, all the creatures in the surrounding nature started to make their sounds. At this point, the feeling of appreciating Allah's creations really had a great impact to my heart. Subhanallah!

After descending down from the cave, we had our dinner in the dark on the field. The torchlights and lightsticks helped to compensate for the lone firefly flying around us. During dinner, we talked about Humility. A leader is said to be incomplete without this value. We human beings make up a small part of this universe. It reminded us that we are helpless and it would be inappropriate boast about our own abilities. Then, after we did isya', we headed into the dark forest where we learnt about trust. We got out of the forest safely by trusting the person in front of us (we had to walk in a single file). To trust one another is another key when working in an organization or commitee, another lesson.

Soon after that we got a ride back to our base at Muhajirin Mosque (thanks to the alumnis and their cars). When we got back, we met an ustaz who gave us sound advice regarding meeting the objectives of the camp, just like how Rasulullah (pbuh) spread da’wah to his people. I am glad I was part of it. Soon after, we had a reflection followed by bedtime (even though there was no bed to sleep onJ)

Next morning after fajr prayer, we had a light snack followed by a tadarrus session. We had final session of sharing this time. I learnt that being in a committee is to be committed (no pun intended, merely an emphasis). The alumni showed us some videos from the past events that were organized from the previous batches of NYPMS. We commented and described the necessary planning required for an event to be successful. It also gave me an idea of how NYPMSN has been operating. It was like a history lesson of NYPMS, it was refreshing to get to know the big picture of the current NYPMSN. We went on talking about future plans of NYPMSN.

Alhamdulillah, through this camp, I got to know everyone involved much better, be it the alumni or the current members. Meeting the alumni during camp Amir was very interesting because they had a lot of experience to share with us. And I really mean A LOT. I'm pretty sure all of us were inspired to make NYPMSN strong and successful from their sharing. Well, I definitely was. The only thing that was really disappointing about the event was that it ended too early."

The brothers head out to Dairy Farm for their next activity. From their testimonials, alhamdulillah, we can see that the brothers had really enjoyed themselves and benefited from it.

"Camp Amir. In other words, Leadership Camp. I was looking forward to this as it was going to be my first camp with my NYPMSN brothers. The event was held at the house of God, somehow this made me more mindful of Allah during the camp. Of course, that doesn’t mean that one cannot have Ihsan when he is not at the mosque or in solah. Even if we can’t see Him, I know that He sees us J

The camp started with an activity which described our personality. We had to choose one out five shapes, and I picked circle. We were tasked to build the tallest tower just using papers. All the groups had their own creative ways to build and make their tower stand. I realised from this activity that having a good foundation to lead is important. It doesn’t matter how long it might take to build, as the following steps will be smooth and easy to build upon. Otherwise, your tower, akin to your leadership, will be unstable and may even collapse. At the end of the game, we were told that the participants who chose circle were the sociable ones. It reminded me that we ought to give salaam and smile when we came across with our brothers outside. Courtesy is for free. Courtesy is for you and me!

We played Country Tycoon next. We had to be smart in managing a country, and work around how much input and output we can manage for our resources, in order to survive or even make profits. For lunch, we ate nasi goreng. It was very nice!

We headed to Dairy Farm. After a short trek into the forested area, we arrived at a huge field, surrounded by the hill. Brother Hilwan shared his experience in NS and working life. We were told that it will get more and more difficult to find time for solah as we grow older. However, we should not make our work, tiredness, or anything we are busy with as excuses to miss our responsibility in doing ibadah. We shared how we can shorten the time for solah and taking wudhu’. One of the ways to shorten the time for wudhu’ is to just take those that are wajib, and do it once instead of thrice. It is even possible to take wudhu’ with less than half a cup of water! Also, finding the kiblah is not that difficult. Just use a compass, if you have. If you don’t, look at the stars. Spot 3 stars in a straight line and that’s there you have it, the kiblah. The sun rises in the east and sets in the west. Hence you can roughly gauge where the sun and kiblah is at. After we prayed solatul ‘Asr, we hiked into the forested area and rested in a really small cave named, American Pie. Soon, it was maghrib. It was a new experience for many of us who have never prayed on a slope full of small rocks and a place with little headroom. After we did our prayers, we could hear all the creatures making really loud sounds in the darkness. Actually, they were all doing tasbih. And they continued on and will continue doing tasbih throughout the night. We continued on the programme with dinner and Isya’ prayers, before making our way back to Muhajirin mosque.

Through this event, I learnt that as a leader, we have to do our best in what we do, and also guide others along. Offer help if anyone is having any difficulties. Communicate with one another and ensure all information is clearly passed to other members. In a team, every single member is important. Lastly, learn to humble ourselves. No matter how successful or how high our rank is, we are all equal in the eyes of our Creator. What makes us different is our heart. I hope this camp continues on in years to come so that we have more brothers to join us in this beautiful experience insyaAllaah."

Masya'Allah. Jalan Raya with NYPMS was really fun. Thanks to all the support and help we received from current members as well as the alumnis. Thank you Allah wa Rasullullah s.a.w for allowing this to happen. Thus there is nothing much to say except to enjoy looking through these wonderful photos we have posted up. Great bonding session. Fabulous photo-taking moments. And best of all, heart-warming companions. Not forgetting our humble, respected hosts, thank you for all the delicious food and kind hospitality. We cant expect more. Wa`alaykum as-salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

Dear questioner, we commend your pursuit of knowledge and your keenness to seek what is lawful and avoid what is not. We earnestly implore Allah to bless your efforts in this honorable way.

First of all, we would like to stress that Islam encourages us to be charitable to all regardless of differences of religion or race. Blood donation comes at the top of charitable deeds; therefore every Muslim and Muslimah should not only participate in it but also take initiatives in their communities to encourage the act.

Responding to the question, the eminent Muslim scholar Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, states the following:

Blood donation is the best assistance a man can offer a patient who needs a blood transfusion due to blood loss or surgery. Donating blood is a highly estimated deed, as it saves the life of a human being whether he is a Muslim or not. It is an act whose virtue is explicitly clarified in the Qur’anic verse in which Allah the Almighty says: “Whosoever killeth a human being for other than manslaughter or corruption in the earth, it shall be as if he had killed all mankind, and whoso saveth the life of one, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all mankind” (Al-Ma’idah: 32).

It is well-known that donating money is a highly esteemed deed in Islam; Allah is pleased with such deeds, so He accepts them and multiplies their reward up to seven-hundred-fold and more, by His Will. Donating blood is even greater in virtue and reward than donating money, as the former saves the life of a human being. Blood, which is a part of man, is more precious than money. The blood donor gives part of his body to his brother or sister out of love and solidarity.

The virtue of blood donation increases when it is done to support a person in a hazardous condition and relieve his hardship. This is an extra virtue that qualifies one for more reward from Allah the Almighty. It is reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Verily, Allah likes supporting a man in need” (Reported by Abu Ya`la, Ad-Dailamy and Ibn `Asakir, on the authority of Ibn Anas, as related in Faidul-Qadir 2/287).

It is reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “If one removes a hardship of a Muslim in this life, Allah will relieve a hardship from him on the Day of Judgment” (Reported by Al-Bukhari and Muslim on the authority of Ibn `Umar, as related in Al-Lu’lu’ Wal-Marjan 1667).

Moreover, it is reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) declared that supporting the needy, even animals, deserves great reward in Allah’s Sight. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “While a man was walking he felt thirsty and went down a well and drank water from it. On coming out of it, he saw a dog panting and eating mud because of excessive thirst. The man said, ‘This (dog) is suffering from the same problem as that of mine.’ So he (went down the well), filled his shoe with water, caught hold of it with his teeth and climbed up and gave the dog water. Allah thanked him for his (good) deed and forgave him.” The people asked, “O Allah’s Messenger! Is there a reward for us in serving (the) animals?” He replied, “Yes, there is a reward for serving any living creature” (Reported by Abu Hurayrah, as related in Al-Lu’lu’ Wal-Marjan 1447).

It seems that the Prophet’s Companions thought that serving such creatures does not entail any reward from Allah the Almighty and that there is no value for such an act in Islam. Hence the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) clarified to them that being good to any living creature, whether it be a dog or such, deserves great reward. So what about assisting a human being, and what if that human being is a true believer? It then entails much greater reward.

Blood donation generally entails great reward, and when it is done for the favor of someone’s kin, it deserves even greater reward, as it strengthens the ties of kinship and enhances good relations among relatives. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Supporting a needy person is a charitable deed, while supporting a relative is two charitable deeds: spending money and strengthening the ties of kinship.” (Reported in Al-Jami` As-Saghir by Ahmad, At-Tirmidhi, An-Nasa’i, Ibn Majah, and Al-Hakim on the authority of Salman Ibn Amir; verified by Al-Hakim, and supported by Adh-Dhahabi, as related in Faydul-Qadir by Al-Manawi 4/237).

This reward especially multiplies if the relation between one and his kin is not originally good. In other words, if a man is having a dispute with his relatives and can overcome feelings of enmity and hatred that are rejected by Allah and by people, and extend a helping hand, whether with money or blood, he then offers the best act of charity, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) considered it so when he said: “Charity is to support a kin with a severed relation (that is, one who does not keep good relations with his kin).” (Reported in Al-Jami` As-Saghir by Ahmad and At-Tabarani on the authority of Abu Ayoub and Hakeem Ibn Hizam, and in Al-Adab Al-Mufrad by Abu Dawud, At-Tirmidhi and Al-Bukhari on the authority of Abu Sa`id. My Experience at the Bukit Timah.

On saturday, 15 August 2009 was the event "Hiking with NYPMS Network : The Circle Of Life.‏" that I waited eagerly for!

At around 9++ in the morning, we set off from B.Batok MRT Station to go to Bukit Timah.

And then.. there was the rain

So what did we do?

he he he ....

Use the ponchos!
And that time was the exam period, so as a safety precaution we used it as we don't want anyone to get sick. =D

Alhamdulillah, the rain subsided soon after we played the games. And one of the games we played was the 'Blindfolded', but with a twist. You see, what we had to do is to guide a person up on the trails as seen. WITHOUT touching that person, only talk to that person.

I have to admit, it was a bit nerve-wrecking for me. But when I listened to my partner's experience as the one who was blindfolded, it was more challenging for her having to go through the climbing and all.

Then up to the trails to the top! Tiring, but fun nevertheless. =)

Speaker’s profile

Mohammad Hannan Hassan is the Assistant Director (Education), Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS). He is actively involved in presenting papers, conducting training and workshops, and organizing summer schools locally and internationally, for youth, teachers, and social activists. He holds B.Ed (Hons), First Class with Distinction from Kuwait, majoring in Arabic Language and Islamic education.

Amongst the several awards he received was the Amir of Kuwait Award. He also holds M.A. (Islamic Civilization) from International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization (ISTAC), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He is currently doing his Ph.D at the Institute of Islamic Studies, McGill University, Montreal, Canada, and was awarded the Principal Award (McGill) for his studies.

Hannan's interest has always been in philosophy, history of ideas and civilizations. His current research interest is Muslim-Jewish relation, Legal History in the Malay Archipelago, and Non-Muslim under Muslim's legal systems and practices.

A Journey To Become Rawahil

NYPMS Network supports the existence of the Tertiary Muslim Students Network (TMSN). As such, a handful of us were more than eager to participate in the camp entitled, "A Journey To Become A Rawahil", conducted by TMSN with the huge support of MUIS and Asian Leaders Network. This camp was aimed towards the exco members of the 7 muslim societies within TMSN.

A rawahil is a traveller. As human beings on earth, we are likened to a traveller on our temporary journey on this earth. We are honoured to have a distinguished speaker from Australia, Dr. Zachariah Matthews as our main speaker for the camp. A pharmacist by training, Dr. Matthews is very active in the da'wah scene in Australia.

Througout the 2 days, 2 nights camp, we were served with lectures touching on leadership and da'wah. We also got a little insight of the da'wah scene in Australia.

There was also a mini-forum session entitled, "Story of Little Red Dot - How Singapore Expand Her Influnece. The panelists were the likes of Dr. Albakri and Ustaz Hannan. This helped to contextualize our the da'wah efforts in our local environment.

We also broke off into groups to have a heart to heart interview session with some people who have been very active in the local activist scene. We got some tips and were motivated to continue to strive for excellence of our community.

Sometimes you may think that it is impossible to achieve it. You may think that all hopes are gone. And you may think of giving up. But one thing i've learnt from the camp is that no matter how tough the situation is you should never give up and keep on trying till you achieve it.

Friday. The last day of a 3d2n silat camp. Its final activity is a sparring session. I injured my right foot during the early minutes of my fight. However, i still fight all the way till its over. After the fight, i sustained another injury. This time, on my right calf. I think i've pulled a muscle there.

On the same Friday, 11.00pm. I arrived at Masjid Al-Amin. I was told that everyone is at the peak of Mount Faber. So, i decided to go up and join the rest. Upon seeing the sign board that points towards Mount Faber, i followed it. It was dark and quiet. I climbed the stairs while constantly glancing over my shoulders to see if there's anything behind me. There's a malay saying, "Jangan Pandang Belakang" I guess i totally forgot about it. hah.

The climb was a long one i tell you. I was frustrated while climbing the stairs. My speed is as slow as snail and my leg is stopping me to go any faster. Limping step by step in the cold and quiet night. Its super scary climbing Mount Faber all ALONE in the middle of the night with some lights spoilt, flickering on and off, and with all the weird insect sounds. And the steps seems to be endless.

Alas! I finished the steps. And relief came rushing to me.

And that was the beginning of my TMSN CLTP.

Now, ill let the pictures do the work as pictures speaks a thousand words.

True to the purpose of TMSN, we learnt a great deal on how to become better leaders in our muslim societies. The games and talks in the camp.

In order for change it needs to start within ourselves and our relationship with Allah is of upmost importance.

We need to develop the ukhwah or the relationships between ourselves. Hence we come to appreciate the need for tarbiyah. Overall, it's always amazing to interact and bond with fellow like-minded students from various institutions.

And finally, i would like to thank the organising committee for organising this great camp.

Greeting One Another with “Assalamualaikum”

How much do we know of the importance of salam to our fellow Muslims? Do we practice it diligently and do we extend our salams to strangers and passer-bys? Let us look into the importance of the Salam in Islam.

The meaning of salam (peace) is safety and protection from evil and from faults. The name al-Salaam is a Name of Allaah, may He be exalted, so the meaning of the greeting of salaam which is required among Muslims is, “May the blessing of His Name descend upon you’.

The Salam is an element of good Islamic manners. In the proper conduct of greetings one may find keys to good social behavior and the proprieties of friendship and exchanges in Islamic framings. Allah says in the Qur’an (BismillaharRahmanirRahim),

“When you are greeted with a greeting, greet with better than it or return it. Allah takes count of all things”. (4:86)

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) made giving salaam a part of faith. Abu Huraira narrated that The Messenger of Allah (may peace and blessing be upon him) observed: You shall not enter Paradise so long as you do not affirm belief (in all those things which are the articles of faith) and you will not believe as long as you do not love one another. Should I not direct you to a thing which, if you do, will foster love amongst you: (i. e.) give currency to (the practice of paying salutation to one another by saying) as-salamu alaikum

Bukhari reported that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was aked: “What is the best thing in Islam?” He said, “Feeding others and giving the greeting of salaam to those whom you know and those whom you do not know.”

Another custom of the Holy Prophet (may Peace and Blessings be upon him) is shaking hands while offering salaams. The Prophet (may Peace and Blessings be upon him) says, “When two Muslims shake hands, their sins fall to the ground, as leaves of the tree fall to the ground.”

Brothers and sisters do not pass the opportunity to rid ourselves of sins on a daily basis. It certainly does not require much that we extend our hands and greet our fellow Muslims. Following the Sunnah of our Beloved Prophet is the deen and the straight way of life.

Qunut Nazilah

Qunut is a recitation of doa in facing difficult times and situation and to ask Allah’s protection from any peril.

WAYS TO PERFORM QUNUT NAZILAH

Qunut Nazilah can be done in every obligatory solat: Zohor, Asar, Maghrib, Isyak and Subuh. It is recited after ruku’ while in the position of I’tidal .

There are 3 ways that an Imam can recite this doa

1. Recite the Qunut for Subuh prayers only.
2. Recite the Qunut Nazilah only (below)
3. Recite the qunut for Subuh first and continue with the qunut nazilah.

Important Reminder:
• Imam who does not memorized the nazilah prayers, they can recite the qunut as in Subuh prayers and the nazilah prayers can be read after solat.

• Imam should remind his jemaah that qunut nazilah will be recited during the prayers and the ways of performing it.

Tilawahton 2008

Tilawahton 2008 was a commendable achievement for NYPMS Network. It was another spiritual event organized by our own members. Motivated by the success of the Tilawah segment featured in our Iftar 2008, Tilawahton 2008 was born to instill and foster the habit of Quran reading and appreciate the beauty of the Quran.

Conducted on 13th Dec 2008, it was gratifying to spend Saturday morning together at Al Khair Mosque in remembrance of Allah SWT. We started promptly at 10am with the short opening speech followed by the Tilawah segment. It was especially momentous that we are able to recite the Quran verses and sing Qasidah together.

We had a reflection session led by Bro Asyraf and Bro Syaheer. It brought most of us to tears as we recollect and regret on our past actions and gratitude towards Allah SWT. The lights were turned off, instilling a greater sense of remorse and repentance. After the tilawah, we had fun Ice Breaker games followed by Zuhur prayers.

A sumptuous lunch prepared us for the tazkirah shared by Sis Huda and Bro Azmi. Bro Azmi spoke about “Achieving Concentration during Prayers” while Sis Huda shared with us “Evils of the Heart”. The session initiated favourable responses from the participants whom shared their knowledge and experience relating to the subject in hand. Due to time constraint, we were unable to prolong the discussion further. We then played ball games. After Asar prayers, we closed the event. Alhamdulillah, the event was a success.

We would like to thank the participants for spending your time with us. It was great to have our fellow compatriots from the other Muslim Societies joining us in such a memorable event. We hope you had benefited from our event and increased the ukhwah among the brothers and sisters. Do support us in our future events, Insyallah. =)

Jalan Raya 2008

Jalan Raya was fun. It was a great opportunity to catch up with the alumni and mingle with the new members. Our first stop was at Masjid Jamae Queenstown to do our dhuha prayers. Cikgu Kassim, our NYPMS Network advisor, is also the chairman of Masjid Jamae. He gave us a pep talk how the mosque can help NYPMS Network in our cause. We then proceed to Cikgu's place which is just a stone throw away from the mosque. We had spaghetti and pizza there.

Close to 30 of us proceeded to our rented bus and the house visiting continued on till night time. We presented the owner of the house our token of appreciation for their hospitality. This year we made it a point to show our appreciation to our parents in a form of a doa. The offspring were made to present personally to the parents. There were touching moments too. Tazkirah were also given sparringly throughout our jalan raya.

We managed to cover about 10 houses including Cikgu Kassim and Cikgu Jafar. We made our prayers at various mosques .... 30 orang kalau nak solat pat rumah orang havoc jugak dibuatnya.

We ended the day with our typical seeking forgiveness session from one another.

Food was good. The company was great. These made the day memorable. I truly hope everyone involved enjoyed themselves and that the jalan raya has strengthened our ukhwah as a group.

Western Buffet with NYPMSN iftar

Unlike our official NYPMS Network iftar, this iftar held on 25th September 2008 was a rather informal affair. The planning and implementation was brief but Alhamdulillah the event was a success. The response rate was very encouraging as 18 people had signed up within such a short period of time.

The major of the group gathered at Bugis Mrt Station at 6pm then made our way to Amirah’s Grill Café at Bussorah Street. The others soon joined us. As soon as the azan calls for break fast, we had a sumptuous dinner. Smiles were plastered on everyone’s faces throughout dinner. Numerous jokes shared among the brothers and sisters were definitely memorable and pleasant.

After dinner, we performed Maghrib, Isyak and Terawih prayers together at Sultan Mosque. Unfortunately, I had to leave early so I will let the rest describe what happened after terawih prayers. : )

It was warm to have the Alumni members, current committee and the new members breaking fast then performing prayers together. It was special indeed and a wonderful opportunity for us to strengthen our ukhwah as driving forces of NYPMSN.

I hope everyone had enjoyed themselves. I do look forward to more events in the future. Do give you support in future events : )

This year, NYPMS Network had our iftar at Al-Huda mosque again. Though the turnout is not as big compared to last year, I find it just as meaningful. We gathered at Al-Muttaqin mosque to where we did our zohor prayers and waited for the rest of the participants.

First up was, ice-breaking games. I enjoyed the game where we get to share the meaning of one another's name. We had to make up a storyline with our names. I personally felt the guys did a better job than the girls.

After more games, we did our Asar prayers.

Next up was the interactive syarahan by Ustaz Irwan Hadi with the topic of The Spirit of Al-Quran. I liked the way Ustaz presented the topic. He managed to lay the topic systematicly that I remained engaged throughout. I would have wanted more but time was not on our side.

It was followed by a mass tilawathon. Led by brother Azmi and brother Asyraf, we recited the surah Al-'Alaq till An-Nas. This year we got something better than T-shirts. We gave out translation of the Al-Quran to the participants. (Rajin2lah baca... jangan tolak satu corner jer)

Before we know it, it was time for iftar. A light iftar, maghrib prayers then followed by the main course. A nice serving of Nasi Ambeng. We proceeded on with our Isyak prayers, tarawih and witr.

Changes in Transport Arrangement

Latest update: There are some changes to the transport arrangement. We will meet at 1.30 pm at Al-Muttaqin Mosque to perform Solat Zuhur. The bus will then leave from Al-Muttaqin mosque at 2 pm to Al-Huda Mosque.

After the event, we will be providing buses which will leave from Al-Huda Mosque to Bedok and Woodlands MRT Station respectively.

We might be too obligated with our school work and people around us. However, in this upcoming month of Ramadan, we take this opportunity to purify our sins. Hasten in Good Deeds!

My brothers and sisters in Islam do compete in good deeds and haste in grabbing the opportunity to gain the pleasure of Allah. Allah loves the steadfast and righteous. There should be no more excuses and doing a good deed is easier than we think. Here are some good deeds we can incorporate in our everyday lives.

1. Evaluate yourself daily before going bed. Thank Allah for good deeds, repent to Him for your mistakes and sins.

2. Think of Allah before you take any action. Make dua before everything- sleeping, eating, studying,

3. Make a habit to read the Quran everyday.

4. Spend more time reading Islamic books, especially the Seerah, Hadeeth, and Fiqh.

5. Give sadaqah (charity) no matter how little'

6. Take the time to understand what's going on in the Muslim world today. Do your part to get involved and help relief organizations.

7. Keep yourself in a state of wudu' most of the time.

8. Replace the music you often listen with nasheed, music with islamic lyrics or with Quranic recitation.

9. Do not eat unless you are hungry and stop eating before you are full

10. Lower your gaze

Hope you are in the best state of health and iman, InsyaAllah.
I wish to make 2 announcements.

1. Regarding NON-HALAL food stall at NYP Koufu.

Please be informed that the Chicken Rice Stall in NYP Koufu has not received HALAL CERTIFICATION from MUIS. As such, the stall is to be considered as NON-HALAL. The stall employs a Makcik with tudung as a stall helper. This may cause confusion among the Muslim customers, in particular the Muslim staff/students who may not be aware. Few months back when Koufu started, the stall has applied for a MUIS certification. As such, it displayed a notice pasted in front of the stall stating their application and pending approval from MUIS. But till now, the status has not been approved by MUIS thus no HALAL certification and they were told to remove the pasted notice subsequently.Please inform your peers about this development.

2. Regarding the toilet at NYP Block E level 4.

It has been brought to our knowledge that the toilet condition at NYP level 4, at times, is in a state of 'wet mess'. The finger is being directed at the Muslims in NYP who may use the toilet for their prayer's ablution and subsequently do their prayers at block E. They even mentioned about washing of feets in the wash basin. I foresee a similar situation may occur at other toilets nearest to the mussollahs in other blocks. This is a trial time and I want all of us to be calm about this finger pointing. What we should do now immediately is to try and minimise this 'wet mess'.

How?

a) Avoid using the toilet at block E level 4 for ablution. This toilet is used by the SA staff and officers. If possible, try to use the toilet at block E level 3.

b) Meanwhile, let's brainstorm for a creative solution towards doing our ablution needs without creating a 'wet mess'.

Any suggestion is most welcome.
Please disseminate this information to all Muslim Bros/Sis in NYP.

this post concerns all brothers only

since its hard for me to get hold of you guys all at once
I've decided to turn to the blog as the only alternative

I know this is probably not what you want to hear but
I have decided to not join CS5 as an NYPMS-ian
reasons being:
1) my other team has already registered me
2) $90 is not small change for a green team like us to splurge on
3) we still do not have the pre-requisite no. & types of players
4) we have yet to trained nor know each others strength&weakness
5) it is too short a notice for a green team like us to prepare for an ex tournament like CS5

I am however, NOT discouraging you guys from forming a team. We however have ample time to prepare for an annual tournament also known as the Christmas Cup. That however is a tad more expensive then CS5 but if we have trained hard and have build our core foundations then why not right?

I hope you guys dont hate me for backing out now and I hope for you guys to see the bigger picture to this.

Salams, everyone...

Alhamdulillah the alumni gathering we had yesterday was a success! Firstly, thanks to everyone of you who set aside some of your time to attend to the gathering! Special thanks to the person/people who organised this event. Also thanks to those who brought food & drinks for the potluck. (:

I'm sure all of you had an enjoyable time at Pasir Ris Park yesterday, even though it rained & almost everybody was late for the event. Haha. We started later than planned but alhamdulillah it went smoothly. The games were all fantastic ice-breakers. I asked some of our sisters here including the alumni, & we all agreed that Rounders was the most entertaining game! For the brothers, i'm sure u guys enjoyed your soccer game! We (the sisters) were quite disappointed though we hadn't enough time to play Captain's Ball. :( Nonetheless, there were enough games to heat up the atmosphere. (:

More of such events would be good! This gathering has brought all of us together & create bonds among all of us. It was great meeting the alumni, especially, & also to get to know more members in NYPMS, especially the new ones. The alumni were very sporting! POWER ALUMNI! Haha. ok ok.

In short, i'm sure this gathering has been a memorable one for us. So let's look forward to our future events! =)

D-Talk is jointly organised by students from Nanyang Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic and An-Nahdhah Youth. We wish to engage the youths and this is part of our activities to attract more youth and raise awareness amongst Muslim Youth in Singapore on the importance of da’wah (sharing about the values and teachings of Islam to others), imparting relevant skills and knowledge and promoting a da’wah culture; focusing especially on sharing about Islam to non-Muslims. Beyond just preparing our Muslim youth to face the current growing interest in Islam, D-talk aims to educate them about da’wah being an obligation.

We can expose members to the meaningful interactive lecture and strengthen our bond.

Starting A Good Deed

Dari al-Mundzir bin Jarir, dari bapanya r.a., katanya: "Semasa kami sedang duduk di sisi Rasulullah s.a.w. pada waktu tengah hari (di Masjid Nabi di Madinah), tiba-tiba datang satu rombongan (dari kaum Arab, suku Mudhar yang sangat-sangat miskin) dengan berkaki ayam dan berpakaian compang-camping ..; berubahlah air muka Rasulullah s.a.w. kerana melihatkan penderitaan mereka. Lalu Baginda masuk (kerumahnya - yang terletak di tepi Masjid) kemudian keluar semula, lalu menyuruh Bilal azan. Bilal pun azan dan iqamat, lalu Baginda (bersama-sama sidang jamaah) mengerjakan sembahyang (Zuhur). Selepas sembahyang, Baginda (bangun) berucap (menggalakkan umatnya bersedekah kepada orang-orang yang memerlukan bantuan). Baginda memulakan ucapannya dengan ayat al-Qur'an.(surah Al-Munafiqun: ayat 10)

Maksudnya:
"Wahai sekalian manusia, bertaqwalah kepada Tuhan kamu yang telah menjadikan kamu (bermula) dari diri yang satu (Adam) .." hingga akhir ayat.

Dan membacakan lagi sebahagian dari (ayat 18), Surah al-Hasyr yang maksudnya: "(Wahai orang-orang yang beriman), bertaqwalah kamu kepada Allah (dengan mengerjakan suruhan-Nya dan meninggalkan larangan-Nya) dan hendaklah tiap-tiap diri melihat dan memerhatikan apa yang ia telah sediakan dari (amal-amalnya) untuk hari esok (hari akhirat) .."

(Rawi hadith ini berkata: Mereka pun bersedekah), ada yang memberi dari wang dinarnya, dari wang dirhamnya, dari pakaiannya, dari segantang gandumnya, dari segantang buah kurmanya, sehingga Baginda bersabda: (Bersedekahlah) walau dengan setengah biji buah kurma sekalipun".

Katanya lagi: "Tiba-tiba datang seorang lelaki dari kaum Ansar membawa satu bungkusan besar dan berat, hampir-hampir tapak tangannya lemah menatangnya, bahkan tidak dapat menatangnya".

" .. setelah itu, orang ramai pun datang berduyun-duyun (membawa sedekah, masing-masing menurut kemampuannya), sehingga aku melihat bertimbun dua longgok dari makanan dan pakaian. Pada saat itu aku melihat wajah Rasulullah s.a.w. berseri-seri seperti benda indah yang keemasan (kerana gembira) lalu Baginda s.a.w. bersabda: "Barang siapa membuat satu rancangan yang baik dalam Islam maka ia akan mendapat pahala rancangannya itu dan pahala orang-orang yang mengerjakannya sesudah ia memulakannya, dengan tidak mengurangkan pahala orang-orang yang mengerjakannya sedikit pun.

"Dan barang siapa membuat satu rancangan yang jahat dalam Islam maka ia akan menanggung dosanya dan dosa orang-orang yang melakukannya sesudah ia melakukannya, dengan tidak mengurangkan dosa orang-orang yang melakukannya sedikitpun."(surah Al-Baqarah: ayat 261)

To summarize as above... The companions of Rasulullah were sitting with him at around noon in Masjid Al-Nabawi(the prophet’s mosque). A group of Arabs from the Mudhar tribe (who were very poor) came barfooted with tattered clothes. Rasulullah’s face changed upon seeing their sufferings.

After performing the Zuhur, Rasulullah gave a speech to the people to encourage them to donate to those who need help. Rasulullah was asking the people to donate even if it is only a piece of date(the fruit).

Suddenly, an Ansar man came out with a big and heavy bag that he could hardly carry it. Only then other people started to come out in hordes to donate as much as they could donate.

Rasulullah said that whoever plans to do good deed in Islam, he will get the rewards for that deed. He will also receive the rewards of the people who followed him in doing the good deed, without decreasing their rewards.

Likewise, if a person starts to do a bad deed. He will be burdened with the sins of the people who follows him in doing a bad deed.

I hope that we will keep this in mind as we strive for the development of our club. Let us introspect our intention(niat) as to why we are striving for the success of this club. May Allah accept our struggle and guide us along the way.

Let us keep the hadith above in mind if ever we feel that the going gets tough.

Salams peeps! In a blink of an eye, its nearly the last 10 days of Ramadhan. Fast isn't?

Last Saturday 22/9/07, NYPMSN had its 2007 Iftar@ Masjid AlHuda which is located at Sixth Avenue, Jalan Haji Alias. There were a lil' twist to this year's iftar. Why? Cause its called The 1st Ramadhan Youth InCharge Program organised by Al Huda Youth collabration with NYPMSN! cool isnt it..

YES! As the name implies, the mosque was lead by us...YOUTHS!!! It was an experience if you asked me. The participants arrived at Al Huda Mosque abt 3.45 pm. Free tshirts were given out to all participants! Lawa beb! After Solat Asar which was led by Bro Syaheer, we had an interactive lecture by Ust Bahrul Ulum. Could see that the participants had some fun with Ustaz. "Tet tet tenet tet, Bapak Jerung...Tet tet tenet tet, Emak Jerung".

Then it was break-fast. We had Chicken Rice! And while everybody queueing up for the food, "Boom" the mosque blackouts. HAHA..not once, but twice! LOL. That's what I call "Masjid Kampung". Hey guys, e food was nice rite? hehe

We proceeded on to Solat Isyak and Terawih. After which, had another lecture by Ustaz Khidir Abd Rahman. I must say that's another engaging lecture. The event ended off by speeches for both parties. Al Huda is hoping for more collabration with NYPMSN.

NYPMSN Amazing Race 2007

Yesterday, NYPMSN held an Amazing Race event in Sentosa. Alhamdulillah, things went pretty nicely. The weather was great considering it had been raining heavily for the past week.

It was nice to see family and friends gathering together. It was thrilling to see the competitive spirit of the participants. Hopefully the experience helped bond the relationship between team members.

Things started with a game of rounders while waiting for other teams to come. Playing it on the beach gave a different tone to the game. The fact that parents, siblings and friends are playing together made it very memorable.

After briefing the participants of the race and a quick warming up session led by Bro Syaheer, the race commenced.

Teams were made to pose in this truck.

After the whole game, there was prize presentation and a photo-taking of everyone.

Hopefully all of you had fun and overlook the organising committee's shortcomings. We hope to provide more meaningful events in the future. Yeah, we hope to see you there too.

NYPMSN will collaborate with Al-Huda Mosque in an iftar event this Ramadhan. Al-Huda Mosque wishes to engage the youths and this is part of their activities to attract more youth to that particular mosque.

On our part, we can expose members to the meaningful interactive lecture and strengthen our bond.

The interactive lecture by Ust Mohd Bahrul Ulum will be in English while the lecture by Ust Mohd Khidir Abdul Rahman will be bilingual.

Spmls Bowling Competition

We were invited to join SPMLS bowling competition. We managed to send a team to enter. Definitely not the best team but we were there to network and have fun. Azmi, Syaheer, Ishak and myself played made the team.

Ishak had to leave early and the rest of us took turns to play Ishak's turn. We did decent considering that we had little experience with bowling and the last time we played were ages ago.

The first game was a warm up game. Followed by 2 more games which were counted to the final tournament score.

The top scorer for the team is yours truly while the rest had the same total score for the combined two games.

Salam NYPms,

Well...today we had another Musollah cleaning but this time more people turned up:) Alhamdulillah! The more the merrier.

Before I continue, just to let all of you know that we have a new member of NYPms. Hehe! She is Fadhilah. My friend from the same course, same tutorial group, from the same hospital attachment and the same ward. Thanks Fad for coming down!

Anyway, the people who helped out in the Musollah cleaning were Brother Hilwan, Ishak and Muhaymin (if its spelt correctly). The sisters were Amyna, Siti, Fadhilah, Yani and me. Brother Firdaus and Brother Adi came later. Thanks everyone for taking your time and effort to keep the musollah clean and tidy!

Before I end, please change the carpets to rubber tile soon!!! Lots of breeding insects to handle! Haha!

Dear NYPians do come down tomoro for the NYP Youth Cultural Bazaar. Lots of things sell on that day and there will be concerts and games too. So do come aite =) And support NYPMS booth. Booth 14. =)

Picnic at East Coast

We had a picnic on 23rd June to celebrate the success for Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge. Well, it was a blast. I tried to get to know the other members better and managed to chat with them during cycling. I almost passed up on the chance to volunteer to take care of the tent.

I'm glad that the guys insisted that I go. Two of our alumni members joined us as well. Bro Ishak and Bro Hilwan came from camp to spend time with us. Their presence brought life to the event.

There was good food, good company and games. I especially liked Sis Syidah's cheesecake. Sis Huda was game enough to spend her birthday with us. I hoped everyone had fun as much as I did.

Also managed to take some photos and some video recordings. Sis Syidah helped with the recording. Hoping to get the video up to the site very soon.

Bro Muzzammil dropped by as well at the last moment.

YEC Picnic At East Coast

Salam readers!
Last Saturday on the 23rd of June 2007, we had our NYPms picnic at East Coast to celebrate the success of the YEC Event. I really had a wonderful time with you guys and I am sure you all did too.

We started off with some sort of Ice Breaker which was really hilarious! But it was the best way to start the picnic because we were all very quiet when we arrived and plus, we were able to get to know the Alumnis better. The best part of the picnic was an exciting game of Rounders! It was short but we had a splendid time. People mentioned that we should have an annual Rounders ball game. I strongly agree!

The bonding only started when we went for a bike ride for almost 2 hours!! It was not merely riding but we had little talks in between. It was from this activity that I got to know some of the members and Alumni better. Likewise, some of you guys realised that I can't speak Malay. Haha! Of course, we deserved a bowl of Ice Kachang after the ride right???

As a final point, I just want to say that this was one of the many events that really bonded us together. However, we should also not forget our purpose in NYPMS and our responsibilities as a Muslim.

Mussolah Cleaning

Well, today we had another one of our mussolah cleaning sessions. We want to say thanks to the kakak, Kak Muzanah, who lent us a broom and a mop.

Bro Hilwan came back to help. The sisters who were there were Sis Siti and Sis Huda. Many others could not make it as some were involved in camps and some were on holiday. Alhamdulillah things went well and we managed to do what we wanted to.

I must thank Bro Hilwan again for coming down. I feel it is time that we think of a better way of keeping our mussolahs clean. Join the mussolah discussion.

Islamic Leadership Training Camp

I spent 8-10 June in the premises of of NTU for a leadership camp conducted by FMSA. It was great that 4 new members, Azhar, Erni, Nurrasyidah and Huda came along to the camp. I hoped they have found the camp to be an enlightening experience.

The camp consists mainly of lectures after lectures. There were times that I felt like going into fish mode(inside joke) but it was worthwhile. We got a free copy of the Al-Quran's translation. It was money well spent. For myself, I made it a point to learn as much as I can. Be it about leadership skills, be it about about the people around me or about myself. I believe I left with empowering lessons to take back.

There were 4 other NYP students who went there other than the 5 of us. Kamal yr3 DMIT and VP of SIT club. There was also Ismail, yr3 nursing student. I tried to get feedback on what they thought of NYPMS.

One of the facilitators was Alfian, who turned out be Remy's ex-secondary schoolmate. Btw, Remy is the previous chairman of NYPMS. Too bad I did not manage to talk to Alfian as much as I wanted to. I did however get to have a good talk with another facilitator, Bro Hairudin. He is one of the founding members of NYPMS back in 1997. I got a history lesson on NYPMS. I also got valuable insights from him and could now see the bigger picture of things.

I now feel that we are not striving for the success of NYPMS alone. There are people out there who would be more than willing to help. Insyaallah we can make an impact. Amin.

Summary of lessons learnt.

Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge

Last Saturday has been a pleasant surprise to the NYPMS family. We actually won first place in the Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge in Masjid Darul Makmur. This is thanks to the efforts the members who took part in the event. Even though you guys are new, you got together and formed a dynamic team.

There were frustrations when the crowd was not coming but you guys stayed in the game and emerged victorious. That's the kind of fighting spirit we need.

Special thanks goes out to Sis Aminah and Bro Karim, being the ones who lead the team. To the new members, I hope this will be the first of the many events that you will participate as part of NYPMS.

And who can forget Mr Most Happening, Bro Syaheer. The fact that you, Sis Erni and Sis Huda actually went all out to promote the carnival was the key reason why we actually won.

I am looking forward to the picnic that we are planning to celebrate our success. Also looking to know you guys better.

Assalamualaikum to all fellow members of NYPMSN and to those readers of this blog. First of all i would like to thank Bro Karim for giving us this opportinity to join in the YEC - Youth Entreprenuer Challenge. Who knows our first try might end up a successful one..hehe..

We had been having lots of meetings to set up our business plans. Meetings after meetings at last we decided to focus on a certain event - which is coming soon on the 17th of June, Father's day. We had an idea of designing dedication cards for Fathers. We do have other things in mind too.

2 days before the event, the juniors and me went to shop for our stuff. We enjoy the shopping although everyone is tired since we did that after school. It's quite rushing though as for some have to sit for their ICA test. But whatever it is, i'll glad that you guys are willing to sacrifice your time to help out in the business. After all, it's a teamwork! Everyone has a part to play. =D

So the day before that, we "gotong-royong" doing our packaging and share ideas on how we can display the items on that day. When the time comes, ( sorry on behalf of the seniors for the lateness..hehe) we brought whatever stuff we had from home, and decorate the booth as nice and simple.

We've been enduring throughout the day under the hot sun. Thanks to the tikar which at least can be use as our shelter. =P It's quite "mendak" as there wasn't many people. So we are just hanging around the booth and enjoy the show that they had for us. First was a performance by the "chipmunk" i think..haha..the silat groups..they were fantastic.lol.. and we also heard the Dikir Barat groups..I have no idea they are from where..But ya..they are fantastic too. And the most awaiting part for whoever know his song " Dambaan Kasih" i guess..haha..yeah..you got it. Didi Sazli..i think..haha..

K..i dont want to drag the story..haha..cos really der's lots of things that i wished to post here. But just let say it that the event was 80% enjoyable. Betul tak? Haha.. Well Congratulations to NYPMS for thier success. And hopefully, we will be delighted to join in the next challenge in the future. InsyaAllah.

Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge

Nypms will be participating in a Youth Entrepeneurship challenge on Saturday, 2nd June 2007. As part of the challenge we are given a booth to sell stuffs. We will be selling gifts items including those that commemorate Father's Day.

There will also be Henna painting, balloon sculpting and a lucky dip among other things.

So, come on down to Masjid Darul Makmur anytime from 9am-5pm to support Nypms. Our booth will be called, "Nypms Gift Parade". Part of the proceeds will go Nypms fund so that we will be able to organise more meaningful projects in the future.

Briefing for new members!

We will be having a briefing session for new members on 9 May 2007, Wednesday at 3.30pm. The location is at blk P, level 7, room P.709.

We will be sharing with you what you can expect from Nypms. We will take you to Nypms' past events and the future ones that we will plan for you.

We will also have our advisors, NYP lecturers to share their vision of gathering the Malay/Muslim students of the school. Ultimately you will have a picture of how
you can develop yourselves as individuals if you decide to join us in this journey.

Finally, we will also share what can be expected in the
coming couple of weeks.

It's labour day. I already made plans with my NS friends to watch spider-man3 at 4.25pm. Before that, I squeezed some time for a meeting regarding this weekends' Family Day at Masjid Assyakirin.

It is will be a race against time to make things run smoothly for the actual event. Whatever it is, we shall try our best to achieve what we can. Some things are within our control while others are up to Allah.

Club Crawl Recruitment

A group of us went around school to approach the students to join us as new members. We are looking for anyone who wants to be a part of network that aims to better the muslim community especially within our school.

It was a good opportunity to learn how to sell. In this case, to sell our club. Overall, it was an experience of growth. That is what matters.
